The book is dedicated to the work of two talented authors of the 17th century, who created significant historical works before the reforms of Peter the Great. The patriarchal chronicler Isidor Snazin, developing the views of his colleagues, brilliantly presented the theory of the primacy of the Slavs and Russia in world history in the classical form of chronicles. The "Brief Contemplation" of the patriarch's opponent, Sylvester Medvedev, became a precursor and model of the future genre of documentary historical journalism. The monograph examines the concepts, methods, and sources of these visible antipodes, who were in fact allies in shaping historical science in Russia. Intended for specialists, students of humanities universities, and serious enthusiasts of Russian cultural history.
