Christianity is often perceived as a socially conservative and pro-capitalist religion oriented towards the right-wing political spectrum. But how justified is such an interpretation when we remember that the first followers of Christianity were among the oppressed? In the book "Christian Left" by Anthony Williams, the perception of Christianity as a religion of inequality is problematized, providing an introductory overview of socialist and radical Christian movements over the past 150 years. Focusing on contemporary Christian left movements - from Christian socialism to liberation theology, from Martin Luther King's civil rights movement to queer theology - Williams examines the main challenges faced by Christian leftists today from within Christianity itself and from secular leftists.
