“The Laws of Manu” is an ancient Indian collection of law, religious, moral and legal regulations attributed to the tradition of the legendary ancestor of mankind-Manu. According to modern ideas, this unique text was compiled from the 2nd century BC. e. in the II century n. e., however, its genealogy can be traced much further, until the middle of the II millennium BC, when North India was conquered by the Aryans. This book consists of twelve chapters: I chapter describes the idea of the origin of the universe, estates (VARN), human society, II-the rules of life during the training period, III-IV-the rules of life of a family-owned family, V-some religious norms, VI-rules The life of the hermit, VII - instructions on the duties of the king and government, VIII - instructions on legal proceedings and legal practice, IX - X are devoted to family relations, punishments for various crimes, duties of members of VARN, XI - instructions on repentance and vows
