The publication of this reprint deck was a significant event for both Tarot collectors and art history researchers. These rare cards were reproduced in genuine color tones, thanks to the surviving deck of the Visconti-Cherfete Tarok, which was created in Milan in the middle of the 15th century.
The term Tarockers was used in Italy at the beginning of the 16th century and, quite likely, at the end of the XV century to describe the full deck of 78 cards, consisting of 22 trionfi cards, or trump cards, and 56 cards with masters.
