From the introduction:
"I decided to revive, conceived by Ivan Khudyakov back in 1863, the magazine" Fairytale World "and began to publish folk tales on the network. But he stated that I want to once begin the publication of paper books of a fairy -tale magazine. This thought seemed doubtful to many, due to the fact that people read paper books less and less.
However, twenty years ago I began the publication of the "complete collection of Russian fairy tales", and issued almost twenty volumes. My publisher’s experience says: if books are published poorly, they are poorly bought, but it is worth publishing them with their souls, and people take them. While fairy tales were published by us in the design of a professional artist, they were almost not taken, the series was unprofitable, and I made it at my own expense.
There was a great temptation to calculate that Russian people no longer need fairy tales of their people, and stop the publication. However, something in our souls was indignant, we, as they say, rested ourselves with the entire publishing house, and decided to publish everything that was collected, because there is no need to expect such a feat from our Academy.
And then the idea came to us: fairy tales are noted not because they are told by professionals with the voices staged, and folk painting is so good only because its creators did not end the Academy of Arts. And we decided to reprint the entire series in the design of unprofessional, with drawings that were drawn by ourselves in order to amuse our children.
And suddenly they began to take fairy tales! .. "
