If at the beginning of the century Freemasonry in the Russian Empire, thanks to the rapid evolution, has turned into a political organization that sets itself the goal of “overthrowing the autocracy”, then in exile Masonic workshops that worked in Russian became a kind of strong stronghold of the “Order of the Russian Intelligentsia”, which preserved the culture of the country . Of the more than two thousand Russian Masons, almost every tenth has professionally engaged in literary activity.
