In the book "Heavenly Dancers. The stories of the enlightened women of India and Tibet, compiled by a team of modern European authors under the leadership of Angeliki Prenzel, provide the biographies of eleven women who left an important mark in the history of Buddhist teaching. The heroines of the narratives lived in India and Tibet in the Middle Ages, when tantrism spread widely in these cultures. Meeting enlightened teachers, women began meditation practice. Often for this they had to leave families, to tear their previous connections.
Some openly despised the patriarchal foundations and became wandering yogis, others adapted and lived in society, but they all remained faithful to their spiritual path, whether in the family or in a mountain cave visible snow. Thanks to internal freedom and inexhaustible energy, Yogini gained a deep experience of the nature of the mind. Subsequently, they taught many compatriots, made up philosophical works and manuals on meditation, some even founded their Buddhist schools that exist to the present day. The key role of these and other women, the bearers of wisdom, is recognized as all schools of Tibetan Buddhism in the transmission of the diamond path.
The collection is supplemented by reference materials and glossary. Illustrations for the Russian edition of the book were prepared by Moscow artist Zalina Toguzaeva.
