This collection presents the works of the famous Russian writer Nikolai Semenovich Leskov (1831–1895), dedicated to spiritual and moral improvement, as well as the apocryphic legend “Sentence to Hell” - an article first published in 1894 in the “St. Petersburg newspaper” and telling about the sources of Russian icon -painting creativity. Analyzing the plot of the Icon “Sunday with the deeds”, the writer establishes that he is due to the contents of the apocryphal gospel from Nicodemus - a unique early Christian source. Contrary to the established opinion, the spiritual path is not a narrow path leading along steep mountain slopes up, but a bumpy road with many forks. And what direction we choose depends on where we will come. Heroes of the stories N.S. Leskova, placed in this collection, behave strangely, contrary to the usual, but their behavior is visible deep wisdom and knowledge of the laws of life
