For a long time, the sources of Christian symbols were either completely hidden, or described vaguely and ambiguously. We simply did not have access to many valuable works on this topic. And so, this book is a translation of the work of the English researcher Thomas Inman, who lived in the 19th century, sheds light on many issues of religious symbolism.
The author turned his gaze in prehistoric times and came to very original conclusions, which is divided here with readers.
We know that the earliest religions were content with unpretentious, simple symbols of life. Everything that could remind humanity by the first part of creation and creators in the form of male and female principles received a cult value. In later and perfect forms of worship, rude types began to portray conditionally, replacing them with complex and less obvious symbols. The study presented in this book is an attempt to trace the pagan prototypes of the symbolism that we may be used to, but we have no idea what its original meaning was.
