Boris Stepanovich Zhitkov (1882-1938)-a famous children"s writer, teacher and traveler. The future writer spent his childhood in Odessa, in the gymnasium years became friends with K.I. Chukovsky. After graduating from the Imperial Novorossiysk University (1906), B.S. Zhitkov goes to his first voyage, and in 1912 he was lucky enough to become a member of a trip around the world.

This is what the main character of the story “Handy cat” does. Having tamed Murka, he takes responsibility for her and, when his house begins to attack street dogs, sends a cat to live with fishermen - to where she will be safe and always fed. Love for animals and nature, the ability to make subtle observations and notice the habits of animals, a clear and clear language make B.S."s stories Zhitkova is very bright and realistic, allow you to vividly imagine a picture of the events described.
