“Visit” - so Alexander Kushner called his chosen one, and the poem, which opens the book, begins with the words: “I also visited ...”. The roll call with Pushkin is natural here, Kushner relies on the tradition of Russian poetry of the XIX - XX century. “Kushner’s lyrics,” Andrei Aryev writes in an article about him, “is a connecting and unknown thread with the intimate content of Russian literature in general.” The motives and reasons for the verses of Kushner are unusually diverse. Whatever the reader Kushner’s loving poems thought, he can always remember his lines on the same topic. And with all the thematic diversity, the unity of Kushner poetics amazes. If we compare his first book “The First Impression” (1962) with the chosen chosen book “Above the Breed” (2018), then with all the obvious difference in them there is something in common. This is common - the originality of the poet’s spiritual world. It can be recognized by one stanza (and even a line) “Poetry is the existence of the soul, looking for a way out in the language, and Alexander Kushner is the case when the soul takes on a way out,” I.
