“Visible Darkness” - a novel that in 1979 William Golding violated eight -year literary silence and regained the status of a “living classic” of literature of the twentieth century.
This is an exquisite parody of a psychological novel, where three fates are so bizarre: Matti, in a child, mutilated in a terrible bombing, which becomes a prophet and personifies the light, Sophie - the beautiful, but deprived of the girl’s father, the excellent embodiment of “chthonic evil” , and the pedigree teachers, of the last forces of balancing on the verge between good and evil.
The parables inherent in the work of Golding are sophisticatedly mixed with satirical ones, and the eternal confrontation of light and darkness turns into a much less simple and obvious duel between the darkness of the visible and invisible
