“Vasily Terkin” - Opus Magnum of Twardowski, his “business card”. In Russian poetry, this is one of the most remarkable works dedicated to the image of a truly “popular” hero-a Russian soldier, fearless, kind and cheerful. But a completely different intonation sounds both in the bitter-ironic “thermal in the next world” and in the autobiographical “rightfully memory”-poems, the beloning iron of stalinism and prohibited during the life of the author.
