John Stagg (1770–1823), a romantic of the circle of Walter Scott, having lost his vision in childhood, managed to start a family, become a fair violinist and write a book of Gothic ballads “Menstrel of the North” (1810) The “blind bard from Vigton” was the first to call vampires in English literature - a century before Bram Stoker with his “Dracula”. Earlier, Stagga poems in Russian did not come out of a separate publication
