Ivan Yakovlevich Bilibin is an outstanding Russian-illustrator, theater-decorator. The Bilibinsky style of book illustration was born thanks to the expedition of the procurement of public securities (EZGB), which was headed by Academician, Prince Boris Borisovich Golitsyn at the end of the 19th century.
Having come to the post of managing the expedition, Prince Golitsyn set a goal of creating his work to create an institution, which should serve as an example of imitation for the entire paper and print industry of Russia and contribute to the cultural and aesthetic development of the people.
In the fall of 1899, Ivan Bilibin suggested in the EZGB his drawings for three Russian fairy tales. Prince Golitsyn praised the work of a young artist and subsequently ordered him illustrations for the design of Russian folk tales and works of Alexander Pushkin
