“Ivan Tsarevich and the Gray Wolf” is one of the most famous and favorite fairy tales in Russian folklore. At different times, V. A. Zhukovsky, A. N. Tolstoy, A. N. Afanasyev and even E. Uspensky turned to her plot at different times! And in the Tretyakov Gallery you can admire the picture of V. Vasnetsov “Ivan Tsarevich on a gray wolf.”
In our edition, a “long” version of the fairy tale is close to the version of V. A. Zhukovsky. The adventures of Ivan Tsarevich are not limited to catching a firebird, the search for a golden-bundled horse and marriage to a beautiful princess. Illustrations for the book were drawn by the outstanding artist Nikolai Mikhailovich Kochergin (1897-1974), a representative of the Golden Age of a children"s illustration. In his works, he often turned to folklore and illustrated many fairy tales. It was fairy tales that brought N. Kochergin real glory. The artist seriously approached every new job: he tried to see for his own to what he was going to draw. Therefore, he visited the cities where the ancient way, the ancient fortresses, and the cathedrals were preserved. Considering the bright, “festive” drawings of N. Kochergin, the reader as if he once again read the book, even more plunges into the world of a magical Russian fairy tale.
