Sergey Sergeyevich Zayitsky - a wonderful poet, writer, playwright and translator - was widely known in the literary Moscow of the 1920s, but after death was unfairly forgotten for more than half a century. Meanwhile, the brilliant knowledge of the Russian language, the subtle humor and the excellent knowledge of the life of all layers of the new Soviet society put the author on a par with M. A. Bulgakov, M. M. Zoshchenko and N. A. Taffy.
The heroes of most works included in the book are ordinary guys, whose share of amazing and sometimes dangerous adventures fall. Vasya Staheev ("Great Pass") after the revolutionary events of 1917 enters the White Guard Odessa and is struggling to return home to Moscow. As a result of the same events, the boy Mitya ("found") finds himself in exile in Paris, in separation from his beloved sister Marusia - and seven years later he suddenly sees his native face in the Soviet film. Andryusha Strogin ("sixty brothers") after the death of his father passes through many trials before finding real friends in the person of young pioneers. And in "stories of the old sailor", adolescents act as listeners - the old sea wolf Grandfather Bissange shares with them memories of their exciting adventures
