Hero of the story "Road to life" Student A.S. Makarenko - Semen Karabanov, director of the orphanage of the Birch Polyana, who believes that even the dirtiest street child needs love and care, and with the right education of a good teacher, he can grow a real person.
Frida Vigdorova, a journalist and writer, began her journey with teaching, and therefore it was no coincidence that both her articles and her books of one of the main ones became the theme of childhood, education, and pedagogical work. "Road to life" is a story that opens the trilogy ("Road to Life", "This is my house", "Chernigovka") about work in the orphanage Semyon Karabanov and his wife Gali. These books are not documentary, but they are based on real material - the pedagogical activities of the Kalabalins. Kalabalin is a student A. S. Makarenko, prototype Karabanov from his book "Pedagogical Poem". Vigdorova retained his hero his "literary" name. The story "Road to life" tells about the beginning of the independent work of Karabanov in Birch Polyana - an orphanage for difficult children near Leningrad. “Difficult” are children who have breaded streets, former street children - incredulous, obstinate and offended by life. They require attention and love. Most of the children appearing in the story are not written off from nature, but “invented” by a writer, but perceived as living.
