The anthology prepared by the famous orientalist and translator of Japanese poetry Alexander Dolin included the classic works of the famous poets of the 7th-XVI centuries: Kakinomoto Hitomaro, Yamabe Akahito, Arivara Narikhir, Sugavara Mitizane, it is Komati, Ki-no Tsurayuki, Sosay, Handzo, Handzo Fujivara-no Taika, Saigo, Dogen and others, which make up the gold fund of Japanese and world literature. The collection includes the songs of the VAK (tank and Tyoka), samples of the lyrical and didactic poetry of Kansi and the “strung stanzas” of the Ran, as well as Zen poetry, in which the subtlety of artistic attitude is combined with the philosophical depth of unceasing self -knowledge.
The book recreates the historical panorama of the poetry of the Japanese Middle Ages in all its genre-stylistic diversity and introduces the reader to many names previously unknown in our country.
