Here is the fairy tale G. H. Andersen "Mermaid", the illustrations for which was performed by the Russian artist Ivan Yakovlevich Bilibin (1876 -1942) The hobby of Bilibin by ancient Russian art was reflected in his illustrations for Pushkin"s fairy tales: "Tale of King Saltan", "Tale of the Golden Cockerel", "Tale of a fisherman and a fish".
In 1925, the artist arrived in France, where he continued to develop his style, which became famous abroad as a "russian style". The French publishing house "Flammarion" released several fairy tales with its illustrations, where color and black and white drawings are harmoniously combined. Bilibin hoped that "... finally the new Russian style would be created, quite individual and not tinsel."
Children"s books issued by the artist had a huge impact on the design culture of their time, and for many years the perception of Russian fairy tale has become largely Bilibinsky.
