Charles Bodler (1821 - 1867) - classic of French literature, poet, critic, essayist, founder of decadence and symbolism. The poetic peak of his work was a collection of poems" Flowers of Evil ", first published in 1857 and instantly attracted the attention of the reading public - the poet was immediately fined for insulting public morality and was forced to remove 6 most" immoral poems from the text.
This collection fully reflects the poet’s worldview, its basic lyrical moods - boredom, despondency, melancholy. The heroes of his poems seem to break between the spiritual beauty and the aesthetics of vice, they are tormented by the bifurcation of desires and a thirst for death. Many texts are dedicated to the French poet Theophilus Gauthier and the Muse of the author, the ballerina Jeanne Duval, who significantly influenced the formation of Charles Baudelaire as a poet.
