Maxim Gorky (real name Alexei Maksimovich Peshkov) was born on March 16, 1868 in a poor family. Parents died early, and his childhood passed in the house of grandfather Vasily Kashirin. Grandfather, in the past Burlac, and then the owner of a dyeing institution, went bankrupt by old age. According to church books, he taught the boy to literacy, and his grandmother instilled a love of songs and fairy tales to his grandson, and rushed into his soul the desire for creativity.
Having experienced the need and deprivation early - the boy worked in a dishwasher, at fairs, in a store - the future writer understood the injustice of a social structure and therefore took part in revolutionary propaganda - wandered around Russia, communicated with the poor. Without a good education (he graduated from only a craft school), he constantly engaged in self -education, the thirst for knowledge forced him to turn to the ideas of French education, then to romantic philosophy, then to God -seeking. Starting literary activity under the intricate name of Jehudiil Khlamid, he soon took the pseudonym Maxim Gorky.
It was under this pseudonym that in 1892 the first story "Makar Chudra" was printed in the newspaper, and in 1895 in the magazine "Russian wealth" Gorky published the story "Chelkash". Real success was brought to him "Essays and Stories", published in 1898 in St. Petersburg. And after the story of Fom Gordeev, Gorky became a famous writer.
In 1902, his play "at the bottom" was of great success. Then the plays "philistines", "summer residents", "barbarians", "enemies" came out.
After the defeat of the revolution of 1905-1907, Gorky lived on the island of Capri in Italy, where he wrote the works "Mother", "childhood", "in people". From 1921 to 1928, Gorky is again in exile - in Sorrento (Italy) Here he created the novel "The Artamonov case" and began to work on his main work - "Life of Klim Samghin". In 1928, M. Gorky returned to his homeland, where he finished the novel.
M. Gorky contributed to the opening of new magazines, series of books and the Literary Institute. And in 1934 he headed the Union of Writers of the USSR. In addition, he created the literary portraits of V. Lenin, L. Tolstoy, A. Chekhov, V. Korolenko.
The writer died on June 16, 1936 in Gorki near Moscow. The urn with the ashes of A. M. Gorky rests in the Kremlin wall in Moscow
