The "Sonnets" of William Shakespeare belong to the world classics and entered Russian poetic memory. The new edition of the "sonnets" is fundamentally new in composition. One turn is placed on the English text, its Russian translation, recognized as the most adequate, and a comment that evaluates the Russian translation tradition in comparison with the text of the original. About 40 transfers were made specifically for this publication, squeezing well -known but less adequate texts. The extensive critical apparatus raises the question of the three -century popularity of the Renaissance sonnet, hypotheses are proposed about the creation of the Shakespearean collection, the problem of principles is discussed, based on which the Renaissance Sonnet should be translated - the genre that appeared in parallel with the novel and essays on the verge of the new time. The publication was made in accordance with the most stringent academic requirements and is intended for both specialists and poetry lovers
