"Song of Gayavat" is a poetic presentation of the myths of the Indians of North America of the Dochambian era, mainly from the Ozhibwe tribe living in the great lakes in the states of Michigan, Minnesot and Wisconsin. Gayavata, the legendary Labor leader Ojibwe, probably lived in the 16th century. Not all settled in "songs ..." legends are connected with Gayavata, some of them exist in the form of independent legends, for example, the history of four winds, a duel of spring and winter, or a story about the son of an evening star. The historical Gayavata could also hardly meet with the missionaries-Jesuits described in the epilogue, the first contact of this kind took about a hundred years later. The poem is interesting not so much to ethnographic and historical accuracy as the fact that it reproduces the picture of the world of American Indians.
