Hans Christian Andersen (1805-1875) is one of the most famous storytellers in the world. Born in a poor family of a shoe and laundress. Despite a difficult life, the boy from early childhood was immersed in a fairy -tale world - his father often read fairy tales aloud to him, and a tendency to fantasies and dreaminess helped him cope with life hardships. At the age of 14, Andersen went to Copenhagen so that, as he told his mother, to "become famous". It was still far from universal glory, but he managed to achieve the right to free study at the gymnasium. The years spent at school, Andersen considered the most gloomy sometimes in his life. The fantastic story "Hiking from the canal of Holmen to the eastern end of the Amager", published in 1829, was favorably met by the reading public and brought fame to the writer. In 1833, the writer received a royal grant and went to travel. For a year and a half, he visited Germany, Switzerland, France and Italy. The journey very inspired the writer, and in 1835 he publishes his first collection of fairy tales. The book immediately became popular and was a great success. In total, Andersen wrote more than 160 fairy tales. Initially, the basis of the plots of his fairy tales were the folk legends and legends he heard in childhood. Over time, the fantastic becomes less and less, and easily recognizable characters - students and taverns, pharmacists and apprentices, shoemakers and tailors become the main characters. The author himself said that in his fairy tales he tried to find something that he lacked in real life (for example, stamina and fortitude - a "persistent tin soldier") The fairy tale "Snail and pink bush" is an intelligent answer of Andersen to unkind critics. He represented himself with a pink bush giving joy to people, and grumbling critics - a snail. The fairy tale "Owing duckling" is a metaphorical description of Andersen"s school years. He got to school quite late, a 17-year-old young man, and classmates did not miss the opportunity to laugh at him. In the fairy tale "Thumbeline" the author praises his life ideals - faith in good and morality. After all, it is not without reason that it is said: "as it comes up and responds."
