Veniamin Aleksandrovich Kaverin is a wonderful Russian writer, the author of the famous “Two Captains” and “Open Book”, a Soviet classic, the portrait of which has always remained an impeccable example of moral purity and nobility. His first book was published in 1923 and immediately attracted the attention of contemporaries. Gorky put the author on a par with Gogol and Hoffmann, comparing his talent with a flower of original beauty and shape: I am inclined to think that for the first time on the basis of Russian literature, such a strange and intricate plant is blooming. Kaverin’s creative path - from the “dashing plot ups and downs” and the fantasticity of the early short stories to the story of the “open and wise simplicity of life” - stretched for several decades. At the same time, his works always left a feeling of inner purity and generosity and were built on an unchanging confrontation of those who managed to “save the fervor of youth in themselves, and those who removed it from the soul without a trace” (A. Aryev).
The publication contains novels and novels by Benjamin Kaverin, created at different stages of his work: “Scandalist, or evenings on Vasilyevsky Island” (1928), “oblique rain” (1962), “Before the mirror” (1972), “ Verlioka ”(1981)
