The collection includes ten works of A. S. Pushkin - the poem "Ruslan and Lyudmila" with the preface of the historian of the literature of M. G. Khalansky, the poem "Songs of the Prophet Oleg" and eight poetic fairy tales, including the Tale of the Pope and his employee Balde. " At the end of the collection, this fairy tale, processed in 1840 for censorship reasons of Zhukovsky, is also given with illustrations from the journal "Jester". The texts of all fairy tales are decorated with magnificent drawings of eight artists, among which are such masters of book illustration as I. Ya. Bilibin, B.V. Zvorykin and V. M. Vasnetsov.
Pushkin"s tales for almost two centuries have been happy to re -read both children and adults. It is not surprising that their texts were reprinted many times. The charm of this publication is that it is decorated with the best illustrations that have ever been created for the classic works included in it.

Working on their drawings for Pushkin"s tales, they became the successors of the ancient Russian traditions of the design of books, taking not only stylistics among medieval masters, but also the essence of their approach to the design of the book as a whole. Their work created a vector in the development of a book illustration, the action of which is still felt.
It is especially worth noting the work of the talented artist B.V. Zvorykin, whose name, unlike I. Y. Bilibin, is not yet very familiar to our compatriots, and after all, the life paths of these two masters were in many ways similar - they are similar in many ways - Both traveled a lot to Russian villages, sketching products of folk art and painted Orthodox churches. Like Bilibin, Zvorykin left Russia a few years after the revolution. In France in 1925, he painted illustrations for Pushkin"s fairy tales. Its work is reminiscent of both painting Palekh caskets and medieval book miniatures. Unlike Bilibin, Zvorykin was not destined to return to his homeland. The artist died in 1942 in Paris occupied by the Germans. Books with his illustrations that went abroad minimal circulations were known to a few bibliophiles. Now his wonderful work is finally becoming the property of all Russians.
At the end of the collection, readers can also get acquainted with the "fairy tale about Kuzma Ostolop and his employee of his Balde." The author of this alteration of the original Pushkin text was Zhukovsky, who worked after the death of the poet on the preparation of the posthumous publication of all works of the poet. In this collection, the Tale of Pope during the life of Pushkin, for censorship reasons, was never published, but even after his death, Zhukovsky did not dare to present her text to the public. As a result, a distorted version of a fairy tale was born, which for a long time attributed to Pushkin himself
