Omar Khayyam is known throughout the world as an outstanding philosopher and poet, and his poetic aphorisms (Rubai), where he expressed his own thoughts about man, are revered and loved by readers of different ages. Edward Fitzgerald gave a new life to the quatrains of Khayyam, who first translated them into Latin, and then into English. It was Fitzgerald who discovered Khayyam"s poetry to the world. He also united thematically 101 quatrains into a holistic poem "Rubayat Omar Khayyam", then translated into Russian by Osip Rummer.
