“Romances of the Belleva rope” - poems with a fascinating and sensational plot - were once unusually popular. They were published in the form of folded leaves and hung up for sale in the markets, attaching to the underwear ropes using clothespins. The heroines of the poems presented in this collection are fugitives, treason, bandits, who came out mainly from noble families. The new type of heroine-a fearless and cruel beauty with a sword or musket in her hands-spread widely in the Spanish romances of the XVII-XVIII centuries. The poems about the laws corrected the law played the role of moralizing, but, thanks to colorful descriptions of the villains, at the same time they spent the undemanding taste of the layman. In the 19th century, the “romances of the linen rope” disappeared, unable to compete with the criminal chronicles of the boulevard press
