Social drama - so determines the genre of her works by Svetlana Potapova. Her heroes are adolescents, whose life is hard to call happy: they are always on a platoon and do not expect gifts from the world, but rather a slap. In these stories, from the first person, there is not a single fake note, and the scene is not intentionally named, because such plots could turn around - and turn around - anywhere.
Lyudmila from the story "Repair" is infinitely ashamed of her mother - spineless, obsessive, unable to understand her. And what the mother earns a living ... And the friends of Lyudmila are no better: who had a terrible tragedy, whose parents live in another century, not noticing anything around. These are, it seems, all adults - divorced from reality, through and through fake or cruelly indifferent. But Lyudmila has a chance to start a new life - to gnaw from the world at least a piece where you can live according to your own rules, to protect yourself from hypocrisy, which has become ordinary for others. Who knows, maybe the relationship with loved ones will also be able to fix it - or easier to throw them out like an old junk?
Lera and Lena from the story "Alien", it seems, does not have anything in common, except that both are engaged in a modeling studio. Lena’s family has the most common, and in the model they gave her so that high growth would not disappear in vain and posture corrected. And Lera from a wealthy family, her parents do not refuse her anything, and now she wants to shine on the catwalk. But after the graduation definition, she disappears - and only Lena guesses that the proud beauty, similar to an alien, fell into trouble.
Journalist and teacher, Svetlana Potapova has a unique gift to notice eloquent details and accurately transmit living teenage language. The story "Repair" in 2017 entered the Long List List of the Booker Prize.
