Konstantin Konstantinovich Sluchevsky (1837-1904) is more known to the modern reader as a poet and translator. And few people know that his prose occupies a considerable and important place in his work and in the history of literature.
In this collection, in addition to the poetic cycles of the "Duma", "Mephistopheles", "Black -Earth Strip", "Murmansk echoes", "Songs from the corner" and others, the prosaic works of the Professor of Immortality, "My uncle" are included , "Prayer to the wind", "mayor", "coward", etc., characterized by genre diversity, psychologism, a mixture of fiction and religious and philosophical reasoning, the style of very uneven and not all appreciated for subsequent eras.
In Soviet times, the works of K. Sluchevsky were rarely reprinted, so some of his prose works are first published without yards. The collection also includes the poem "in the snow" and the apocryphal tradition of Eloa ".
The publication is preceded by an article by V. Bryusov "Poet of contradictions"
