Mikhail Yuryevich Lermontov is the younger contemporary of Pushkin and the second value after him in Russian poetry of the XIX century. Fate was allowed to live only 26 years and only 13 years in order to go down in the history of world literature. Lermontov’s creative evolution was swift, he went a long way - from childhood imitation of Pushkin and Byron to such generally recognized masterpieces as “and boring and sad ...”, “I go out on the road ...”, “Prophet”, etc. The romantic hero of the youthful lyrics Lermontov challenges the whole world: “I was born, so that the whole world is the viewer of the celebration or my death ...”, in later poems the poet speaks on behalf of the generation. The present edition included poems of 1828–1841 and the play “Masquerade”
