This publication represents one of the most famous and, one might say, the most discussed and criticized books - the collection “Poems and Ballads. The first episode ”, published in 1866 by the talented English poet of the era of Victorism Aldernon Charles Swinburn (1837–1909) The collection includes 62 poems of various topics and orientations. Erotic-romantic, lyrical, historical, political-his works have always caused many enthusiasm and many condemnations. Worshiping the Marquis de Sad, Gauthier and Baudler, Swinburn restored the sexual frankness in English, lost after the 18th century. When they talk about Swinburn, they recall the four main moments of his work: anti -Christian neopaganism, hatred of political and religious authorities, amazingly subtle skill in metrics and rhyme and sadomasochistic inclinations. With the exception of some poems, all the works that make up the collection are translated into Russian for the first time. This publication also includes the work of Swinburn Notes on Poems and Reviews. The texts of Swinburn are accompanied by the biography of the poet, an article about his work and detailed comments
