Andrei Platonov was the true son of the revolution, accepted it at once and without the slightest doubt. He then did everything at once: reclamation, electrical engineering, party work. And he wrote, embarrassed - because the passion for the word did not die with the advent of the revolution - he was not sure that art should disappear, he was obliged to change the existing enthusiasm of life. He limited himself, ashamed of his love for the word, as a sin. And from this, his word became especially solid, dense, material, the phrase seemed heavy and clumsy, as if thought was still born, “tried” on reality. The works of Andrei Platonov were not appreciated during the life of the writer: they were plunged by ideological criticism, most were published only after his death
