None of the many literary works of antiquity had such a strong influence on the further development of world culture as the immortal poem of Homer "Odysseus". The Odyssey was probably created in the VIII century BC or somewhat later.
The poem talks about the adventures of a mythical hero named Odysseus during his return to his homeland at the end of the Trojan War, as well as the adventures of his wife Penelope, who was waiting for the Odysseus on Itak.
Odyssey is replete with mythical elements. Almost all the episodes of the wanderings of Odyssey have numerous fairy -tale parallels. The form of the first -person story, which is used for the narrative of the wanderings of Odyssey, is traditional for this genre. Although the poem is heroic, in the image of the protagonist, heroic features are not the main thing. They recede into the background in comparison with such qualities as the mind, cunning, ingenuity and prudence of the main feature of Odyssey - an insurmountable desire to return home to the family. The image of the Odyssey is woven from contradictions, hyperbol and grotesque
