New, third in a row after the translations of A.A. Feta and P.F. Porfirova, a full poetic Russian translation of all four books, Horace, returns to the traditions of transferring Horace"s lyrics almost forgotten in the twentieth century by means of a Russian rhymed verse. Translator Alexei Kokotov completely shares the opinion that is widespread among specialists that all attempts to copy ancient schemes based on the new languages of quantitative metrics are invariably leading to artistic collapse, and that the translations of the Horace made in the last hundred years, read, with the rarest exceptions, and is boring , and painful. The translator also believes that, returning to the Russian verse, it is absolutely necessary, following the repair of several cultural Russian publishers, to return to Russian spelling: the book is printed in pre -reform spelling
