Lydia Charskaya (1875-1937) is a famous children"s writer, author of many works for children and adolescents. Her books were unusually popular at the beginning of the 20th century, especially among schoolgirls. And this is not surprising: after all, she wrote about their peers - gymnasium students and institutions, subtly describing the spiritual experiences of young girls. In Soviet times, the books of the Charskaya were not published, and then they again became a classic of literature for primary school age.
Lena lived with her mother in a small town on the banks of the Volga, but she had to move to distant Petersburg and settle in the house of General Iconin, her uncle. There, a poor relative was met hostile: cousins and sisters teased her, and adults were unfairly punished. In the gymnasium, she was also not easy. However, over time, Lena found real friends, and her kindness was able to melt even icy hearts.
Illustrations for the book belong to the wonderful Moscow artist Anna Vlasova, whom readers have long known and love.
