A wonderful Canadian writer, artist and expert in the forest Ernest Seth-Tomson (1860-1946) have been conducting a diary since childhood, and by the end of his life fifty thick volumes in leather bindings have accumulated. Only a small share of what he observed and sketched turned into stories about animals so beloved by young and adult readers. Seton-Tomson became the world"s first author where the heroes were real animals and birds. Prior to this, as he himself writes in autobiography, there were “only fables, fairy tales about animals and such stories where animals talk and behave like people dressed in skins of animals”.
