Poems of Ekaterina Polyanskaya are often reproached with an excessively tragic view of life (as if it were possible!), A certain biographical fencing off, almost a complete absence of love lyrics. I think this is not so. Of course, we will not find here “torn passions”, nor the shirts torn in a fit of frankness. These are poems for people living not only in everyday life, but also in culture.
The author managed to combine the passion of the verse with an impeccably strict form, to restrain the powerful internal energy of harmony, which was always characteristic of the St. Petersburg poetic tradition.
As for the tragic outlook on life, so life is - tragedy. And in the verses of Polyanskaya, it appears to be an optimistic tragedy, which has an exit to eternity. These verses do not crush the reader with hopelessness, but, on the contrary, strengthen his strength and courage to live in this terrible and beautiful world - for which the genre of tragedy is intended - to overcome horror and disgrace to beauty. At the same time, the author is absolutely not trying to adapt to any new -fangled trends, is not afraid to appear inconsistent, she boldly goes expensive, laid by classics, gaining her own, always recognizable voice.
The verses themselves are ambiguous, full of tense meanings, bright images and sensitive observations. And, of course, despite the very modest amount of the actually love lyrics, all of them are about love.
