Rainer Maria Rilke (1875-1926)-the largest Austrian and European poet of the twentieth century, wrote in German. The topic of overcoming loneliness, religious problems, philosophical symbolism are organically combined in his works. The poet visited Russia twice, wrote about it as a country "close, dear and saint, forever entering the foundations of its existence. Boris Pasternak and Marina Tsvetaeva were friends and corresponded with him.
