Louise May Olcott’s novel "Little Women" with delicate watercolors and pencil drawings by Dina Drekhirst has been published in Europe and America for more than a quarter of a century. During this time, illustrations became the same classic as the work itself. Finally, Russian readers will be able to see them and, possibly, re -discover their favorite novel. The artist managed to the main thing - to catch and embody the spirit of this wonderful work in illustrations.
Dina Drihorst was born in Sydney (Australia), studied at the National School of Arts. Then she moved to England. She illustrated her first children"s book in 1967. Subsequently, I created illustrations for such famous works as "children of the railway" Edith Nesbit, "Black Handsome" Anna Sewell, "Little Women" Louise May Olcott and others.
In illustrations for "little women", Dina Drihorst with historical accuracy depicted the interiors and clothes of the civil war in the United States. Her drawings are so realistic that they help readers not only plunge in that era, but also as if to be among the heroes of the novel, feel the comfort of the family hearth and the freshness of the autumn breeze, and the warmth of summer day. Dyna Drychirst"s images of her favorite characters - beautiful Meg, stubborn Joe, meek Bet and frivolous Amy turned out very characteristic. It is precisely that of them that many fans of the novel represent
