Wilhelm Gauf (1802-1827) - the famous German storyteller, was born in the family of an employee of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Prussia and noblewoman from Alsas. The boy was only 7 years old, when his father died and the family moved to the grandfather"s estate in the city of Tubingen. A huge library has become a favorite place for little Wilhelm, and books became best friends. After graduating from the university, Gauf began to work as a tutor in the family of the Minister of Defense - General Baron von Herel. It was for his little pupils that William began to write fairy tales. For the first time, V. Gauf’s fairy tales were published in the Almanac of the Tales of January 1826 for sons and daughters of noble classes" and immediately found many fans. During the life of Gauf, two collections of his fairy tales were published, another collection was published by his wife three years after his death.

This book includes two popular fairy tales of Gauf - "Dwarf Nose" and "Tale of the Califier of the Aista". They not only surprise the young reader with unprecedented and sometimes dangerous miracles, but also give him lessons of wisdom and mercy, strengthen faith in the justice of the world, in the inevitable victory of good over evil.

The boy Jacob, the hero of the fairy tale "Dwarf Nose", was punished for the insolence and disrespect for the old woman - and now unusual transformations and many years of separation from his parents are waiting for him. The hero has to go through ridicule and humiliation, however, in the heart of Jacob, responsiveness and sympathy for others awaken - and these qualities eventually help him destroy evil spells and find happiness.

The story of the aiste Califier also tells about magical transformations and miracles and also has a happy ending, although the heroes, of course, have to go through amazing trials. This fairy tale teaches readers to never give up, not neglect the rules and prohibitions and, of course, be responsible for their words and actions
