A long time ago, the now forgotten French writer of the 19th century, Octave Feiye, wrote a book about a funny, stormy, excess filled with adventures, the life of the legendary pulchinella, a symbol of the Neapolitan people and its culture, the favorite character of carnivals, folk games and even fiction.
It is good that, traveling in Italy, the poet, writer and translator Grigory Kruzhkov noticed in the Bukinist shop an ancient edition of Oktav Fyoye about Pulchinella"s tricks. This intricate story-fairy tale fascinated the circle so that he retold it for the Russian reader in his unique graceful ironic style, filling the content with new meanings.
It looks like a simple -minded and foolish, but actually an estimated and dexterous, cheerful, malicious, resourceful and noble Pulcinella holds all the threads of intrigues in his hands, whether it be the royal courtyard Signor Bugolino, or the Ambassador of Maurus, or General Tyrpirflu, or Merciless Turkish pirate. And even unclean power in the form of a huge cat ultimately loses Pulchinella. Having gained his magical flying tail for his use, Pulchinella has since time from time to time performs flights from Paris to Naples and vice versa.
Artist Sergey Lyubaev with inimitable humor and deep knowledge of the theme of the Italian People’s Theater and the Symbol of Naples illustrated the book, creating accurate images of many -sided Pulchinella. Just like Grigory Kruzhkov, to work with the "Pulcinell", Sergey Lyubaev inspired a journey through Italy. For example, the types of Naples are made by sketches from nature.
Who knows - what if the book about the Italian character Pulcinelle, created by the talented creative tandem "Lyubaev circles", is waiting for the fate of the Russian Pinocchio, the prototype of which was Pinocchio?!
It is recommended for children 6-12 years old
