Matsuo Basyo is a Japanese poet of the 17th century, who made a significant contribution to the development of Japanese poetry. The philosophy of Zen Buddhism, which confessed Basyo, found expression in the simplicity of the form and depth of the content of his poems. Basyo spent a significant part of his life in wanderings in Japan. Road impressions served him as a source of inspiration. “Letters of the Wandering Poet” is the name of one of the poetic travel diaries of Basyo.
