In our collection of "Deniskin stories", everything that their author, Viktor Dragunsky, united them, are included in this cycle. Both during life and after his death, these texts were constantly edited - according to censorship and other editorial considerations. The writer managed to cope with the desire to “correct” Denisk. But in 1972, Denisk lost his defender, and since then the author’s versions of many stories were not published. The same can be said about the "author’s" composition, "author"s composition" of the cycle. Almost half a century has passed since the end of work on the cycle. Both in the world and in our country, much has changed - a new technical era has come, a different political system came to replace socialism. "Deniskin stories" are still loved, but to read and understand them to today"s reader - both young and adult - it may not be easy: much in Denskina’s life is incomprehensible, it does not look like the life of his peer today. Our publication restores the "author’s version of - and individual stories and the entire cycle, and talks about Deniska Kableov, as well as Viktor Dragunsky himself. This is the comments and articles of historians and literary scholars, completing the book. Among them are the most complete in our literary criticism the biography of Dragunsky, a kind of "book in the book", and also stories about the time and place of action of stories, the story of reading and understanding this book, without a doubt, one of the heights of Russian literature for children of the 20th century.
