This book contains fairy tales, illustrations for which was performed by the outstanding Russian artist Ivan Yakovlevich Bilibin (1876-1942) His first significant work is the Tale of King Saltan "A. Pushkin. This fairy tale with its multi -color paintings of Russian life gave a rich food of Bilibinian fantasy.
This publication includes three Pushkin tales: "Tale of King Saltan", "Tale of the Golden Cockerel" and "Tale of a Fisherman and Fish".
In 1925, the artist arrived in France, where he continued to develop his style, which became famous abroad as a "russian style". The French publishing house "Flammarion" released several fairy tales with its illustrations, where color and black and white drawings are harmoniously combined. The book included two tales from this cycle: "Mermaid" and "Carpet-sample". Bilibin"s talent was fully revealed when working on Russian folk tales. Seven Russian folk tales became part of this book. Bilibin hoped that "... finally the new Russian style would be created, quite individual and not tinsel."
Children"s books issued by the artist had a huge impact on the design culture of their time, and for many years the perception of Russian fairy tale has become largely Bilibinsky
