Anna Andreevna Akhmatova (1889–1966) is a poet whose work is unconditionally reckoned with the Golden Fund of Russian Literature. “Akhmatova’s poetry for new people is not what is for us. We were perplexed, surprised, admired, argued and, finally, began to be proud of. They do not need our enthusiasm. They are not surprised because they came later, ”wrote philologist B. M. Eichenbaum in 1923.
