This book is an adaptation of the novel “The Last of the Mogican” by the famous American writer James Fenimore Cooper (1789-1851), whose works have gained immense popularity both in the USA and in Europe. The novel takes place during colonial wars in North America. Some Indian tribes are almost completely exterminated. Korea and Alice, Major Hayworda, a courageous hunter with a falcon eye and their brave friends, Mygachguku and Unkas, will have to overcome many obstacles and dangers on the way to the goal-the British Fort William Genrei, where the father is waiting for the girls. At the end of the book, Unkas dies in an unsuccessful attempt to save the bark, the eldest of his daughters, leaving his father Chingachguk the last of the Mogican. After each chapter, the comment and translation of difficult words and expressions are presented, as well as exercises aimed at testing the understanding of the text, working out vocabulary and grammatical constructions, and the development of oral speech. The manual is addressed to students of grades 5-7 of secondary schools, lyceums, gymnasiums, as well as a wide range of people studying English on their own
