In this parable, the father means God, and by the prodigal son - the repentant sinner. Every person is similar to the prodigal son who retires from God with his soul and indulges in a self -sinful life. With his sins, he destroys his soul and loses all gifts (life, health, strength, abilities) that he received from God. When the sinner, having formed, brings sincere repentance to God, with humility and hope for His mercy, then the Lord, as a merciful Father, rejoices with the angels with his treatment of a sinner. He forgives him all his sins, no matter how great they are, and returns his mercy and gifts to him, accepting his kingdom.
