Dear children, our Lord Jesus Christ, during his earthly life, did not write any books. When he was thirty years old, he went to a preach about the Kingdom of Heaven and three and a half years constantly wandered and taught the people. Only a few years after his procession of death and the glorious resurrection, St. Apostle Matthew briefly described in his book the life and teachings of the Son of God and called this book the gospel. The Greek word gospel means joyful, good news. The gospel is a gospel about our salvation from sin, the devil and death through faith in Jesus Christ.
Later, the Holy Apostles Mark, Luke and John the Theologian also composed their gospels, partly repeating and supplementing the story of the Holy Apostle Matthew. Therefore, these four apostles are called evangelists.
In the book that you are holding in your hands, all four gospels are combined in the same narrative, simpler and more accessible to you.
The gospel is the most important sacred book for a Christian. It opens in it that our God is the Holy Trinity - Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Heavenly Father sent his beloved son to save the sinful world. The Son of God died for us on the cross, and then resurrected and gave salvation to all believers. But faith in Christ should be confirmed by deeds. In the Gospel, we will find the commandments of Jesus Christ, performing which we become the children of God and the heirs of the Kingdom of Heaven. The main commandment of the Savior is to love God and neighbors.
To live pious, we must know and love the Word of God - the Holy Gospel. As the body needs bread, so the soul is the Word of God, and how the eyes need light to see, so the soul needs the gospel teaching in order to increase in good and holiness
